Abdullah Siddiqui. Here is an awesome interview with him.
AskMeMetallurgy: Please, accept our heartiest congratulations on your splendid success. First of all, we would like to know about Abdullah. Please introduce yourself.
Abdullah: Thank you, My name is Abdullah Siddiqui. I am currently in 3rd year pursuing my B-tech in Metallurgical & materials engineering from NIT, Jaipur (2018-2022 Batch).
AskMeMetallurgy: What rank did you get in GATE 2021? What is your GATE score and how many marks did you secure?
Abdullah: My rank is AIR 10, GATE score 874, Marks-84.33
AskMeMetallurgy: Is this your first attempt or did you attempt GATE earlier?
Abdullah: Yes, this is my first attempt for GATE.
AskMeMetallurgy: How was the GATE 2021 MT paper?
Abdullah: According to me, the paper is of moderate level, the presence of a lot of NAT(Numerical answer type) questions increases the chances of silly mistakes.
AskMeMetallurgy: when did you start preparation for GATE 2021?
Abdullah: I start preparing for GATE-MT 2021 in August 2020 when IIT Bombay allowed 3rd-year students to appear in GATE, though I had GATE EXAM in my mind since April. First of all, I go through the previous 10-year GATE question papers to understand the pattern of the examination and what abilities one should have to crack GATE then I start sorting the important topics for the same based on previous year papers.
AskMeMetallurgy: What is your style of preparation and notes making?
Abdullah: I made notes for every subject in a different notebook, watched relevant NPTEL lectures and make proper notes to get a basic idea of every topic. One should be highly organised in notes making so that it will be easy for them to revise topics in the last 1 month.
Previous Year Papers
AskMeMetallurgy: Does solving previous year question help aspirants? At what stage of preparation, Aspirants should start to solve previous year papers? What style did you follow for solving these papes?
Abdullah: Yes, solving previous year questions is one of the most important thing for GATE preparation. Firstly one should analyse the previous year papers before starting the preparation so that one should get a fair idea about the relevant GATE syllabus after that one should read the theory thoroughly. I solved the previous year questions topic-wise.
AskMeMetallurgy: What was your daily schedule like during preparation?
Abdullah: I studied around 6 to 8 hrs daily, in the last 2 months I increased it to 8-10hrs daily.I used to give the 2-3 subject tests & 1 full test per week.
AskMeMetallurgy: What was your time management strategy in the real GATE exam?
Abdullah: In this year’s paper 1 & 2 marks questions were jumbled. I started with the aptitude part first and then solved the easy questions I attempted around a total of 65-70 marks in the first 2 hours in the last hour I solved questions that required some conceptual thinking which add my 12-14 marks more & rechecked my all answers in the last 10-15 minutes.

Suggestion for Aspirants
AskMeMetallurgy: What is the important topic that should be specially focused by the GATE Aspirants?
Abdullah: Thermodynamics, physical metallurgy & mechanical metallurgy are the most important subjects they cover about 60-70% syllabus
AskMeMetallurgy: Please suggest some Do’s and Dont’s for the GATE aspirants during preparation.
Abdullah: Do’s -1-Stay focused. 2-Have a clear vision don’t hesitate about your goal, many people will demotivate you that Metallurgy has no scope but this is the myth. 3-Stay consistent 4-Read only relevant topics you will get to know which topic is important from the previous year papers. 5-Don’t think much about the result.6-Try to solve all previous year problems by yourself don’t refer to solutions until you give your full efforts it will increase your efficiency during the real exam.
Dont’s – 1-Do not get demotivated if you score less in the test series. Test series is only for the analysis of the mistakes you made during the mock test. 2-Do not compare your marks from anyone in the test series. 3-Do not expect any certain marks before the actual exam as marks depends highly on the level.
AskMeMetallurgy: What are you planning for your career after GATE 2021?
Abdullah: I am currently in 3rd year, so I will try to get a job in any PSU next year or I will pursue M-tech in materials science from IISc Banglore or IIT Bombay

Abdullah: It provides me with a platform where I cleared my doubts by a person to person interaction.
Thanks Abdullah for such an awesome Interview. We wish you an amazing career and a healthy life ahead.
