We are experiencing a higher Rockwell reading in a grade of 1035 steel. The heat treatment supervisor as made the statement ” Ok might be a shady few coils. All the previous runs of this lot have been fine. We are just now having a problem. Maybe the bottom of the pot from the mill. Same thing happened with the metal solder at Fry metals. The bottom of the pot always was different when we tested it in the lab.” Would you expect that much variation in a ladle of steel in an EAF shop using a continuous caster? Any thoughts on this statement?
