      As we know that beyond eutectoid point there is a formation of proeutectoid cementite in hypereutectoid steel. This will acts as a nucleating site for pearlite formation rather than the martensite. So as a result hardenability decreases.

      May be due to the increase in carbon content could leads to increase in the brittleness of steel. Because more than 0.8% C steels are having high possibility of becoming martensite phase.
