GATE MT 2018 Q50

At a temperature of 710 K, the vapour pressure of pure liquid Zn is given by: 𝑝𝑍𝑛(𝑋𝑧𝑛 = 1.0) = 3.6 Γ— 10βˆ’4atm. The Raoultian activity coefficient (𝛾𝑍𝑛) of Zn in Zn-Cd alloy liquid at 710 K is approximated by: ln(𝛾𝑍𝑛) = 0.875(1 βˆ’ 𝑋𝑍𝑛)2 . The ratio [ 𝑝𝑍𝑛(𝑋𝑧𝑛=0.7) ] / 𝑝𝑍𝑛(𝑋𝑧𝑛=1.0)for a liquid alloy with 𝑋= 0.7 is ________. (to two decimal places).

first calculate 𝛾𝑍𝑛 Pzn = 𝛾𝑍𝑛(mole fraction of zn i.e 0.7) * Partial pressure at standard state (p=𝛾𝑍𝑛 *X zn*P0) then partial pressure cancels on both numerator and denominator.

      first calculate 𝛾𝑍𝑛

Pzn = 𝛾𝑍𝑛(mole fraction of zn i.e 0.7) * Partial pressure at standard state

      (p=𝛾𝑍𝑛 *X zn*P0)

then partial pressure cancels on both numerator and denominator.
