Let us talk more about this submerged arc furnace: Submerged arc furnace is just like other furnace and the heat input is given using submerged arc. This furnace is mainly used for production of ferro alloys like FeCr, FeNi, etc.
Picture shown above is of Submerged Arc Furnace.
For production of FeCr, Chromite ore (FeCr2O4) is used. Here reduction of Cr and Fe takes place using carbon. So this is carbothermic reduction method.
