During the cold rolling dislocation density increases and strained and elongated grains formed which leads to strain hardening which causes an increase in strength and decrease in ductility. In hot rolling along with strain hardening, recrystallization also takes place due to elevated temperature process which results in a less increase in strength and reduces in ductility as compared to cold rolling. In hot rolling, we can achieve a greater reduction in thickness as compared to a cold one. In cold rolling we obtained better surface finishing.
