Coking Coal
This types of coal when subjected to high temperature carbonisation i.e. heating in the absence of air to a temperature above 600 degree Celsius, form a solid porous residue called coke. This coke is fed into blast furnace along with iron ore and lime stone to produce steel in steel plant. Coking coal are desired to be of low ash percentage.
Non-Coking coal
This is the coal used in thermal power plant to generate electricity. so it is also known as steam coal or thermal coal. This type of coal posseses less percentage of carbon content and high percentage of ash. Since this type of coal is not suitable for conversion into coke.
Coking coal and Metallurgical coke both are same.
