This can be related very easily if you know Phase Transformation. You can see melting as the nucleation of Water in Solid Ice. Where does the nucleation first start? Now we know the answer to that do we not?
Nucleation starts at sites that have higher energies (like Grain boundaries in typical metals). In the case of Ice, the maximum number of broken bonds are present at the Corners, Edges & Faces – in this order and so are the energies at these sites. So Liquid will nucleate (I mean ice will melt) in this order 🙂 🙂
When Solid Ice melts, the corners of the ice will melts first because of more breaking bonds will be present.

Melting of ice starts from corners, edges and then surface. Corners have high surface energy because of the broken bonds. So, first corners will be rounded. This available surface energy reduces the activation barrier for nucleation of water.
Melting of ice starts from edges because of the broken bonds present at the edges. By the broken bonds edges will have high surface energy. So edges will melt first then surfaces.

When ice melts first at corners aftet that edges and after that center. Because of having different number of bonds . In the above corner s has a least no bonds , so its melts first.

The solid ice particles absorb heat energy from the warmer air, giving the particles energy and enabling them to move away from one another. Liquid particles still touch each other, but they are further apart than solid particles. They slide past each other and don’t have a regular shape like solids do. This is what happens when the ice cube (a solid) turns into water (a liquid)
As everybody described
