      Question should specify the perspective.

As far as we can observe there are two main objective of persuing mtech from the point of view of student.  – “RESEARCH and JOB”

Although if you go ideally, Mtech is first step of ladder that will take you into World of research and invention.

      1.  If You are curious fellow who want to discover things, who want to know the why of some unsolved problems.  Who want to take material science into new heights.

Simply if you want to do research and want to go abroad for higher studies.

Then, corrosion technology will limit your area of study.  If you have interest in corrosion related problems and want to solve them. Then go ahead.

It will be better if you prefer MSE since it is broad field for reasearch. Future scope will not be limited.

      2. If you are looking for job/placement, Then it doens’t matter.

Again then corrosion will limit yourself. Although IOCL prefers aspirants from corrosion background.

But having MSE background will help you to be eligible for different companies.

Now, as far as which one is good at IIT Bombay. There can be various parameters to compare. But most of them will be similar. For instance.

      1. Both discipline students can take same number of courses and are allowed to use all amenities at IITs with equal rights.

      2. Both of them can interact and take part in all the activities with same spirit and enthusiasm.

      3. Both of them can sit on canteen and drink hot tea. 🙂

At the end of the day, decision is up to you. As the saying goes – “Listen to all but do what you want”
