If you see the Strain Tensor, each component of strain is produced by a particular Slip system. This strain tensor is symmetric i.e. εxy = εyx      εxz = εzx   & εyz = εzy . Hence by the face of it, there are 6 independent components out of the total 9 (as 3 are identical to other 3). However, during plastic deformation, the volume remains constant and hence εxy + εyz + εzx = 0 (Why? to know the derivation & other related concepts join our Coaching classes. As each slip system produces one strain, and in plastic deformation 5 independent components of strain are present, minimum 5 independent slip systems should be there to call it a Plastic Deformation

will open up that means it will crack. So basically the compatibility condition is a main issue based on that we can decide at least five independent slip system can be active at a time, if it is less than five independent slip system available probably the ductility predicted to be very low in that material because in this prediction it is less than the it will violate the compatibility condition, that actually creates the crack formation during the deformation.
